I checked into a massive hotel during a snowstorm, but there were no staff anywhere in the building. The lobby fireplace was lit, yet the air was freezing cold. Every corridor seemed to loop back into itself no matter which direction I walked. I kept hearing luggage wheels rolling behind me, but whenever I turned around the hallways were empty. Eventually I found a hotel room with the door slightly open, and inside was another version of me asleep in the bed.
I was back in school sitting in a classroom I didn’t recognise. The teacher never turned around and just kept writing numbers across the board faster and faster until they covered the walls. Everyone else in the room looked nervous but completely silent. When the bell rang, nobody moved. I tried the classroom door, but it was locked from the outside. Then I noticed all the clocks in the room had different times, except one at the back that was counting backwards.
I was climbing a spiral staircase inside a huge stone tower. Every floor looked identical except for one object placed in the centre of the room: a bicycle, a television, a birthday cake, a sleeping fox. The higher I climbed, the louder the sound of waves crashing became, even though there were no windows. When I finally reached the top floor, I opened a wooden door and found myself standing underwater, breathing normally while moonlight shone from above.
I was walking through an empty train station late at night while it rained indoors from the ceiling. Every departure board only showed my name instead of destinations. I found a suitcase sitting alone on a bench, but when I opened it, it was full of moving goldfish swimming in mid-air. A voice over the tannoy said, “You missed it again,” and all the lights suddenly went out.
